Field Events Group

The Field Events Group will focus primarily on 5 of the 8 Olympic Field Events: Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Long Jump & High Jump. For the moment we do not have the facilities to work on Hammer, Pole Vault or Triple Jump but are linking with other clubs to help develop opportunities for any athletes interested in these events.

We will be using English Athletics 365 & Ucoach as our main teaching & coaching resource. The Field Events group promotes athletes building their skills in all areas & aiming to take part in competition although this is not compulsory. The emphasis is on fun , fitness & technique development.

YOU TUBE FOR THROWS ATHLETES

You Tube has lots of short video clips that can help with your throwing & technique. Most clips are very short & easy to learn from.

Athletes & Coaches put video clips on You Tube to help share information about what works best to develop skills.

This term we're working on DISCUS & SHOT PUT .WE WILL BE USING SOME OF THE IDEAS FROM THE CLIPS IN OUR COACHING SESSIONS SO PLEASE WATCH THEM IF YOU CAN.

PLEASE, GET PERMISSION TO USE A COMPUTER. Your parent(s) might also be interested in the clips. Show them what you're working on.

These are a few clips to get you started.

You can see the You Tube clips on Shot and Discus   here .

22.7.11

The Throws group has started to work on the English Athletics 365 Throws programme.

There are 9 stages in all.

Each Stage has a colour.  The first three which make up the 'developing athlete' programme are red, yellow & green (or 1,2, & 3).

We will be working on these stages again from September with both new athletes to the group as well as people who want to stay with the group.

We hope to move onto the next three stages, purple, blue and black (or 4,5 & 6) for those athletes who want to develop their skills.

This part of 365 is for the 'practicing athlete' & will help you work on your technique & develop your throwing.

If you would like to know more about 365 please go to www.athletics365.org.
